Based on vintage designs,
we have adapted them so that they can be used on bicycles.
We happened to find a vintage newspaper bag with rare patch pockets that had a cool vibe, so we decided to recreate it and make our own original design. Since we were going to make it anyway, we wanted it to be usable when riding a bicycle, so we modernized various details.
The material is 19oz. 100% cotton canvas fabric. To recreate the aged vintage feel, we applied a used finish to achieve a smooth, rounded red color. While printing on red canvas was quite challenging, we adjusted the ink volume multiple times through trial and error to replicate the vintage texture.
Considering both daily use and cycling, the strap has been uniquely designed as an adjustable strap for a newsprint bag. We created an adjustable buckle specifically for the approximately 6.5cm-wide, thick strap to ensure it fits comfortably on the body.
Since the original vintage bag featured a rare patch pocket, we reproduced it and sized it to neatly accommodate a water bottle.
The patch pocket on the outside features the message “HAVE A GOOD LIFE!!” This pocket was also printed on vintage items.
It has two inner pockets, making it very convenient to use. If you want to put your wallet, cell phone, and other small items in your bag, you can rest assured!
The opening has also been designed with care. It has a snap-on lid to prevent the contents from falling out and being seen.
The lid can be removed as shown in the photo because it is a snap button type. Incidentally, the original vintage version did not have a lid.
One of the great details of this bag is that even when the lid is removed, the opening can be closed with snap buttons.
The patch pockets on the outside are designed based on vintage styles, but have been modified to fit a 500ml plastic bottle. Perfect for cycling!
I happened to find this vintage item, which became the basis for this project. The colors had faded considerably, and the print was barely visible.
