About the book

This year, the Sukajan has become a worldwide boom in the fashion world. The Sukajan was made in Japan as a souvenir of Japan for American soldiers stationed in Japan after the war. It had a baseball jacket-type body familiar to Americans with oriental embroidery of eagles, tigers, dragons, etc. The embroidery was done with a traditional horizontal swinging sewing machine used for Japanese clothing. It later became popular among Japanese youth in Yokosuka, where it came to be known as the Yokosuka Jacket = Sukajan.
This one-of-a-kind clothing made in Japan flourished from the late 1940s to the early 1960s, soon after the war. This book is a collection of such vintage Sukajans. We hope you will enjoy the beauty of the horizontal swing embroidery, which can be said to be one-of-a-kind.
